Measles in Monroe County

The Monroe County Department of Public Health is investigating a confirmed case of measles in a person who recently traveled to Monroe County. This individual was infectious in Monroe County from 9/17/19 – 9/20/19.
MCDPH is looking to identify others who may have been at risk for exposure to measles. MCDPH urges residents, especially those who travel internationally and those who have not been fully protected against measles, to get the MMR vaccine in order to better protect their individual health and to prevent the spread of measles to others.

Other people may have been exposed to measles since public locations were visited by the person with measles while infectious. The potential public exposure locations, days and times were as follows:

The MMR vaccine is highly effective. The first dose can be given after 12 months and is about 93% effective. The second dose is usually given at 4-5 years and boosts its efficacy to 97%. Extra doses are not recommended at this point in time.
